CultureCon with Asa Dugger

clock-ic 4 minute read time

This year, we had the incredible opportunity to attend CultureCon NYC, where creativity, culture, and community collide. With influencers, creators, and change-makers all gathered under one roof, it was the perfect weekend. We teamed up with creator, Asa Dugger, who was front and center to capture the magic of the event and represent our brand in true style. From thought-provoking panels to unforgettable moments, here’s a look back at our CultureCon experience through Asa’s lens.

How did it feel taking over our stories and giving live coverage of CultureCon? What were some of your favorite moments from the event?

I had such a blast sharing live coverage of CultureCon this year—it’s always a fun and rejuvenating experience, but this time felt extra special! Not only did I get to bring the Collective Voice fam along, but the camp-themed vibe really let us tap into our inner child and creativity. Some of my favorite moments were the chill stations where we could relax by coloring, playing Uno, and having meaningful conversations with others at the tables. And of course, the highlight had to be the Tems concert!

CultureCon is such a hub for creativity and community. What stood out to you about the energy and vibe this year?

This year felt like it had a segment uniquely curated experience for content creators. This was the first year of the Creator Summit, presented by Kensington Grey, and it had featured panels on everything from getting started to building a long-term career after going viral, working with brands, and even a mix-and-mingle with the team. I loved how this brought us together in such an inclusive way, allowing the Creators we love online to showcase their expertise and connect with each other on a deeper level over the 2 days!

You’ve built an incredible connection with your audience. How did you approach creating content during the event to keep them engaged and excited?

I approached it by curating a shot list based on my previous experiences and insights/scheduling from the CultureCon app. I wanted to highlight the most interactive moments, like the VIP Scene in Black Lounge, the brand activations with Clinique and Shea Moisture, and of course, the surprise concert with Tems. It was also important for me to showcase the amazing styles of creators and attendees, almost like a “crossover episode” of your favorite creators coming together in one place. It kept my audience engaged and excited to see familiar faces and fun experiences!

Were there any panel discussions, speakers, or topics that really resonated with you personally or professionally at CultureCon?

One panel that really stood out was with Tyler James. I watched him growing up on “Everybody Hates Chris.” He shared such valuable advice for those in their waiting season, saying, “You’re going to miss this time. Everyone romanticizes getting to the place, but once you get there, you’ll miss it… Right now, you can try anything, fail, and it’s fine.” I loved how he emphasized that there’s a blessing in the waiting, where you can explore and learn without the pressure of high stakes or everyone watching. It really resonated with me both personally and professionally. Watch the entire clip HERE!

What was the behind-the-scenes experience like while covering such a major cultural event? Any surprises or unexpected moments?

One of the biggest surprises this year was the event kicking off with a surprise performance by Tems! Tems came all the way to New York to perform just for CultureCon, and no one really knew who it would be until she took the stage. It was such a special moment, especially when she performed some of her most-loved songs like “Me & U,” “Free Mind,” and “Love Me Je Je.” It was definitely an unforgettable finale!

CultureCon is known for bringing together creatives, influencers, and thought leaders. Did you meet anyone new or reconnect with familiar faces who inspired you?

I had the chance to reconnect with some incredibly inspiring people, including photographers I admire, college friends, old colleagues I worked with, and even members of my audience who flew in just for CultureCon! What really stood out to me was seeing people I hadn’t crossed paths with in months or even years and witnessing how we’ve all evolved creatively, doing everything we once said we would. It was a beautiful reminder of how far we’ve come.

For creators who haven’t had the chance to attend CultureCon yet, what would you say is the biggest reason they should experience it in person?

The biggest reason is the opportunity to connect with brands and fellow creators in real life! We spend so much time online, and there’s something so refreshing and rewarding about meeting face-to-face. You get to build relationships, create lasting memories, enjoy great food, and exchange ideas that leave you feeling more inspired and energized than when you walked in.

Your personal style always shines through in your content. How did you approach showcasing your look for CultureCon this year?

My style is often inspired by the shows, movies, and characters I love. The weekend before CultureCon, I watched The Devil Wears Prada and The Parent Trap, so I decided to blend the two for my look—channeling a chic, stylish camp counselor vibe! It was the perfect mix of sophistication and playfulness to match the camp-themed energy of the event.

What were some of the key takeaways or lessons you learned from the event that you plan to apply to your own work or share with your audience?

A key takeaway from this year’s CultureCon is the importance of scheduling more time for play and embracing the slower seasons. I learned how vital it is to engage in activities that help reset my creative mind, like painting or playing games like Jenga and Connect4. It’s a great reminder to prioritize balance and let creativity flow naturally.

After spending the weekend at CultureCon, what’s next for you? Any upcoming projects or collaborations you’re excited about?

I’m really excited to dive into Q4 with a lineup of speaking engagements, and creator events! One of the things I’m most excited about is spending the Holidays in New York, continuing to celebrate my 1 year NY anniversary, and recently working with a dream brand– Macy’s!
